There’s no doubt that bridal showers are fun, but they can also be time consuming to plan. But don’t fret if you’ve been handed the task of putting together this pre-wedding celebration – it’s totally worth it when you have an organized way of keeping track of all the details.

We’ve poured over the internet to find everything you need to do and when to do it so you don’t have to spend precious hours reading through blog posts and websites. Stay right here and keep reading because this is the only bridal shower planning checklist you’ll need.

Remember: give yourself ample time to plan! We recommend starting at least three months before the bridal shower date. So first and foremost, choose a date and stick with it!

3 + Months Before

  • Talk to the bride. Most of the details will be a surprise to her, but it’s good to know what her general thoughts are. If you want to keep it totally hush-hush, talk with her closest friends or family members to get an idea of what she might enjoy.
  • Choose the theme. A theme isn’t necessary, but it does help, as you can plan everything from food to decorations around the theme. A theme can be as simple as a color scheme or more complex, like the bride’s favorite movie.
  • Choose the venue. Now that you’ve got the theme or at least some ideas, it’s time to find the best place to host the shower. Will it be at someone’s home? A restaurant? What places can accommodate the guests best? If you need to make reservations, do so now.
  • Create the guest list. Remember, anyone invited to the bridal shower must also be invited to the wedding.
  • Pick out the invitations. You can include the gift registry and any extra info that might be useful, like a dress code, for example.

2 Months Before

  • Plan the menu. Will there be a sit-down meal or buffet? Perhaps only small appetizers will be served along with a signature cocktail.
  • Order special items. This includes things like linens and rental equipment.
  • Brainstorm on decorations, music, and activities.
  • Compile addresses for the invitations.
  • Call guests who live out of town. Let them know you’ll be sending an official invitation.

1 Month Before

  • Assemble the invitations.
  • Mail invitations.
  • Shop for decorations, paper goods, favors, and anything you might need for activities.
  • Put together your party music playlist. (Tip: a bridal shower favor might include the party playlist on a USB drive.)

2 Weeks Before

  • Buy your shower gift.
  • Make a food and drink shopping list.

1 Week Before

  • Purchase groceries, if applicable.
  • Confirm delivery times, orders, and RSVPs.
  • Prepare party favors and shower activities.

The Day Before

  • Check in. Get with the bridesmaids or anyone who might be helping plan/host the shower to confirm any last minute details.
  • Set up tables and arrange decorations.
  • Prepare food that can be made in advance.
  • Designate a gift opening area – Have a chair for the bride-to-be, trash bags for gift wrap, and a notebook and pen for the person who will write down the gifts/givers.

Print out this checklist and put it somewhere you can see. Cross off the items as you go so you know where you are and what still needs to be accomplished.
