A Complete List of Bridesmaid Duties

If you’ve said “I do” to being a bridesmaid, you’ve also said “I do” to a list of responsibilities.

I know, I know, “responsibilities” sounds so drab, but bridesmaid tasks are unlike house chores in that they’re actually fun.

For one, you’ll be helping out the bride, supporting her through her wedding planning journey, and trying on gorgeous dresses.

Here’s a list of everything you’ll need to do as a bridesmaid.

  • Dress shop with the bride. This includes shopping for her dress (if you’re asked) and your own.
  • Pay for and order your dress and accessories on time. Don’t wait until the last minute or you might find yourself without the appropriate attire.
  • Get makeup/manicure/etc. if necessary.
  • Communicate with the maid of honor and other bridesmaids to make sure everything gets done on time.
  • Help plan pre-wedding parties. The maid of honor takes care of most of these celebrations, but don’t feel shy about lending a hand. She’ll have a lot on her to-do list, so reach out and ask if you can help with reservations, keeping track of details, etc.
  • Attend all pre-wedding parties and chip in if you can. Talk to the maid of honor about how she wants to handle the costs and if splitting them among everyone is something she is interested in.
  • Help with wedding details. Offer a helping hand if the bride needs assistance with decorations, stuffing envelopes, or whatever tasks she needs to check off her list.
  • Purchase a gift from the wedding registry.
  • Show up on time to the wedding and assist guests when necessary.
  • Help the bride get into her gown.
  • Support the bride on wedding day. Help calm her nerves and have fun.
  • Stand with the bride at the altar.
  • Help the maid of honor with anything she might need. This might include helping the other bridesmaids stay on task and tipping vendors at the end of the day.
