Happy Monday Ladies! Hope all is going great with your shower and party planning. Caitlin of Ultimate Bridesmaid is sharing some morning inspiration with her nautical inspired bridal shower board. Caitlin is the lovely blogger behind Ultimate Bridesmaid, where she shares bridesmaid tips, bridal shower and bachelorette party inspiration. And as a bridesmaid in a few of her friends wedding, I say she has a lot of expert advice to share. Recently, I had a caught up with Caitlin to see what she’s been up to.
So give me a little background of the start of the Ultimate Bridesmaid.
In 2011, I was a bridesmaid in five weddings (and a maid of honor twice). I had never been in a friend’s wedding before, so I had to learn a lot about being a bridesmaid fast. I was so surprised to find that there was very little on the web dedicated to bridesmaids. There are so many amazing wedding blogs for brides…but what about the rest of the women in the wedding?! I decided to start a blog for bridesmaids and in the beginning I shared a lot of my own experiences from planning parties for my friends. Eventually it started to transition into something bigger and I was able to feature images from bridal showers and bachelorette parties around the world. Ultimate Bridesmaid celebrated our first year in May of 2013 and I’m so proud of how far the blog has come!
You’re based in Brooklyn…What’s there to do and see in the city that never sleeps.
I’ve lived in New York City for five years now and just moved out to Brooklyn in May. Here are some of my favorite spots in the city, both in Manhattan and Brooklyn:
Brooklyn Botanic Gardens: When you live in the city, you need to escape to somewhere green. The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens are almost magical, with fields of bluebells, giant lavender bushes and gorgeous cherry trees that blossom in the spring. My boyfriend and I like to go to the chili pepper festival in the fall and sample hot sauces and spicy chocolates from local vendors.
The Frying Pan: This floating bar is located in the Hudson River aboard a giant barge. There’s even a tugboat docked alongside where you can host private events. It’s the perfect spot to watch the sun set with an icy Corona and snack on some Old Bay fries.
The Brooklyn Museum: Right next door to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens is one of my favorite museums in the city. The Brooklyn Museum has an amazing mixture of art and artifacts from around the world and it’s usually less crowded than the museums in the heart of the city.
Nai Tapas Bar: I love this tiny tapas joint in the East Village. I always order a glass of the champagne sangria and then try a few small plates (my favorite is the octopus sprinkled in paprika and sea salt).
When you’re not blogging, what does Caitlin love to do?
New York always keeps me busy. I feel so lucky that I can take advantage of everything it has to offer, whether it’s lounging in Prospect Park, attending a free outdoor concert or exploring the tiny shops in the East Village. Since I started my career as an editor and continue to freelance today, I of course always have a book on me. I just started Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore.
Before I let you go, do you have any great bridesmaid tips you’d like to share?
I think the most important thing you can do to be a good bridesmaid is remember that your number one job is to support the bride. Make sure your actions don’t add to her stress—don’t complain about the dress she picks or critique her wedding plans. Do everything you can to encourage and support your friend throughout the planning process and on her special day. And invest in heel inserts and double-stick tape (it’s not just for keeping your dress up—you can also use it to fix hems that are falling out!).
